About the Pottsville Public Wire
The Pottsville Public Wire relays City of Pottsville, Pennsylvania government business — council meeting agendas, public notices, and city news — collected automatically from the city's official website, www.pottsvillepa.gov, and rebroadcast in formats people can actually follow: this site, an RSS feed, and a Bluesky account.
It is a project of Open Pottsville, a volunteer effort run by and for the residents of Pottsville. The city does a good job of posting useful information, but its website predates the smartphone: it is hard to navigate on modern devices and offers no feed or notifications to follow along. Beyond the website, updates go out only on Facebook — a closed network — and no one should need a Facebook account to follow civic news. So the Wire rebroadcasts on the open web: every new item is crossposted to @wire.openpottsville.org on Bluesky, an open social network anyone can read without an account, and to the RSS feed for any feed reader. The Wire is not an archive: every item links back to its original page on the city's site, which is always the source of truth.
